EN | The Umbra is the dark center portion of a shadow. The Moon's Umbra causes total solar eclipses, and the Earth's Umbra is involved in total and partial lunar eclipses, like a shadow's dark core. Imagine a light source and an object casting a shadow. If you are standing within the Umbra, you will not be able to see any part of the light source as the object blocks all direct light rays.

The main concept of this project is the effect caused by an eclipse. The floor plan, divided into two floors, has a circular shape, where the upper floor moves slightly away from the projection of the first floor plan, thus forming the design of an eclipse.

The central point of the upper floor opens up as an internal courtyard, with a water mirror that reflects both the sun's incidence and the darkness of the eclipse.

PT | A Umbra é a parte central escura de uma sombra. A Umbra da Lua causa eclipses solares totais, e a Umbra da Terra está envolvida em eclipses lunares totais e parciais, como o núcleo escuro de uma sombra. Imagine uma fonte de luz e um objeto projetando uma sombra. Se você estiver dentro da Umbra, não conseguirá ver nenhuma parte da fonte de luz, pois o objeto bloqueia todos os raios de luz direta.

O conceito deste projeto tem como ponto principal o efeito causado por um eclipse. A planta, dividida em dois pavimentos, tem formato circular, onde o pavimento superior se desloca levemente para fora da projeção da planta do térreo, formando assim o desenho de um eclipse.

O ponto central do pavimento superior se abre como um pátio interno, com um espelho d'água que reflete tanto a incidência solar quanto a escuridão do eclipse.
