The concept behind the project seeks to highlight time as the main phenomenon, which is marked in the physical and contextual conditions of the site. It embodies an intimate encounter between new and old architecture, with no chance of denying their origins, and while emphasizing their differences to create a clear contrast between the past and the present.

The Zavial Battery ruins claim themselves as gateway to the new architecture, as a beautiful timeline that takes us through centuries of existence in just a few steps. Placed beyond the cliff edges, floating on the water, the Mirador allows us to touch and feel the site’s immensity and openness, seeking the minimum impact on the purity of the ruins, respecting the characteristics of the existing site while maintaining the beauty of the natural scenery.

A concrete structure embraces two suspended volumes which make visual contact with distant points beyond this location, assigning a private proximity with the Fortress remains, with the crags and the seashores in the surroundings, while engaging with the life of the Ingrina and Zavial beaches. The voids in the vierendeel girders act as frames for the vast landscape, as the presence of the monolithic structure within such a memorable place becomes a strong mark of the power of time over the power of man.

O conceito por trás do projeto busca destacar o tempo como principal fenômeno, que se marca nas condições físicas e contextuais do local. Ele incorpora um encontro íntimo entre a nova e a velha arquitetura, evitando negar suas origens, e ao mesmo tempo enfatizando suas diferenças para criar um contraste claro entre o passado e o presente.

As ruínas da Bateria do Zavial afirmam-se como a porta de entrada para a nova arquitetura, como uma bela linha do tempo que nos carrega através de séculos de existência em apenas alguns passos. Colocado para além das margens das ruínas, flutuando sobre a água, o Mirante nos permite tocar e sentir a imensidão e abertura do local, procurando minimizar o impacto na pureza das ruínas, respeitando as características do local existente e mantendo a beleza do cenário natural.

Uma estrutura de concreto envolve dois volumes suspensos que atribuem contato visual com pontos distantes do local, oferecendo uma proximidade com as ruínas do Forte de Santo Ignácio do Zavial, com os penhascos do entorno, enquanto se conecta com a vida das praias da Ingrina e do Zavial. Os vazios nas vigas Vierendeel agem como molduras para a vasta paisagem, ao mesmo tempo que a presença dessa estrutura monolítica em um lugar tão memorável torna-se uma forte marca do poder do tempo sobre o poder do homem.
